Discovery

We have discussed the concept of the epiphany before in relation to the theme of a novel. What epiphany does Mike from "Guess What, I Almost Kissed My Father Goodnight" have? Compare that to the John and Lorraine's epiphany in The Pigman.  How are they similar? Different?

Pigman Quotes

Sometimes the author of a book gives us a clear picture of how he or she views the world by including lines in the novel that do more than simply move the plot along. If we identify these moments in a text, we get a lot closer to understanding what the author is trying to say. I want you to identify parts from The Pigman where Zindel reveals his purpose by inserting a profound quote into his narrative.

An example might be on page 73 when the lady was saying, "Death is coming..." and Lorraine thinks, "Its sort of spooky how when you're caught talking to God nowadays everybody thinks you're nuts. They used to call you a prophet." Please include page numbers and confirm on edline that you posted successfully.

Independent Reading

Reading on your own is an important part of becoming a better reader. I expect you to read for 20-30 minutes a night. Tell me about what you are reading on your own. Explain the main conflict to me. Who is the protagonist(main character)? Remember, make your post no longer than two paragraphs.
