Independent Reading
Reading on your own is an important part of becoming a better reader. I expect you to read for 20-30 minutes a night. Tell me about what you are reading on your own. Explain the main conflict to me. Who is the protagonist(main character)? Remember, make your post no longer than two paragraphs.

Ok im going to find a good book any iedas -niko
The book that i am reading is called Necropolis. Necropolis is about this one girl named scarlet, who is one of five children with powers. I only just started it so all i know is that this organization Night Rise, is trying to capture her. They are trying to do this because they don't want the five children to meet, otherwise they will destroy these evil people called the Old Ones who want to take over the world. Night Rise is working for the Old Ones.

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter is the protagonist. The main conflict of the story is between Harry Potter and Voldemort, an evil wizard. Voldemort killed Harry's parents and tried to kill Harry. Harry Potter now wants to stop Voldemort from finding the Sorcerer's Stone. Voldemort wants the stone so he can use it to get the elixir of life where he could live forever. Quirrell, Harry's professor, who is possessed by Voldemort, also wants to find the stone to get power and use it to live forever.
Iam reading Marley and Me, it is about an unruly yellow Labrador Retriever named Marley. The main characters are Marley,Jenny,and John. Both Jenny and John work in the newspaper buisness and aren't home alot but they think they can perform the task of having a dog. After they get the dog the woman is pregnant and they have two kids and a dog so it is very difficult for them and thats all I have read.-John Rotelle
I am reading harry potter 5 the order of the pheonix. It's about a boy named harry potter, of course, who lives with his aunt uncle and cousin. The point i got up to was where he and his cousin got attcked by what he thought were dementors. So the ministry of magic expelled him from hogwarts, his school of magic, and were going to come over to his house and break his wand.

Sarah- I am reading a book called Kiss me Tomorrow. The main character is a girl named Alyssa whp changed her name to Blister after her parents divorced. She is starting 7th grade with her friend Jonah. She is very nervous and doesn't want to have to depend on Jonah this year. She thinks Jonah likes her, but I haven't read that far ahead to find out if he does. I am gonna try to find out this week.

The book i am reading is Jane Eyre. It's about a girl who is living with these people because she is poor. The people who she is living with are really mean. They dont treat her like they treat the other kids. They make her do chores and lock her up in a room. The other kids in the family hit her and the parent dont even care, but they do care if Jane doesnt call them "master." Jane is very uipset with this so she said she would rather be sent to the poor house.
I am reading the book called Chinese Cinderella. Adeline is the protagonistof the story. Her life was horible of having the mother die when she was very little. She is the youngest borned for her dead mother. Her 3brothers and 1 sister blames Adeline, which they call her "Wu Mei" that means 5th daughter,for killing the mother. The gets married to a Fench lady and got a 1son and 1 daughter. The grandmother dies and the septmother becomes the head woman of the family. The grandfather is still alive but doesn't live with the whole family. The closest memember is Aunt Baba they both share rooms.
I am reading a book called Warriors: Into the Wild. It is a book about an ordinary house cat named Rusty that ventures into the woods to explore. A wild cat comes up and attacks Rusty while hes hunting for a mouse. The cats name is Graypaw, an apprentice for the ThunderClan. Bluestar offers Rusty a chance to join the ThunderClan since "He still has some Tom cat in him." I have not found aconflict yet except that the other clans are getting stronger.

In this bok, which by the way supremely awesomely well written and intruiging and a number of other things, a jordinian man, karim, marries an american woman ,dina. Their oldest son jordan is gay so his father who is very religous but not really at all until recently kicks him out of the penthouse in NY, and hates his son so much that he cannot even bring himself to say his son's name. Karim, though he loves his wife very much doesn't liek american culture. He doesn't like the fact that his wife has a job even though she is an extremely sucessful buisness woma, he doesn't think that she dresses modestly, and he doesn't like the fact that the children aren't as disciplined as his conservative parents in jordan would aprove of, and since this boook takes place after 9-11 he doesn't like the prejuidice towards his children and arabs. One day while she was at work Karim takes the 8 year old fraternal twins Suzy ,her daughter, and Ali ,her son, and boards them on a jet to jordan without Dina's knowledge,. He takes them to save them from the fate their older brother Jordy faced, all the while brainwashing the children about him, calling him unnatural, and a lowlife.
Dina talks to her friends Sarah and Emmeline and contacts a llawyer who tells her that there is nothing that he can do about it but does give her the number of John Constantine who is this guy whgoes on missions that are technically illegal but for a good cause like kidnapping children away from ill-suited guardians and back to their parents or rightful guardians. JOhn constantine devises a plan to go to jordan because she is allowed to visit. SHe goes and her in-laws family really don't approve of her because she's american and catholic, except Karim's sister in-law Soraya who understands where Dina is coming from. She and soraya go to the zoo together witht their children and Dina is supposed to put something in Soraya's food that is harmless but will make her pass out so that she can whisk away her children, but she cannot do this because she finds out at the last moment that Karim sent his bodygaurds to watch and follow her so she can't do this. Karim says he's going to take them on a boat trip and Constantine was going to kidnap them, but suzy doesn't want to go and wants to go home but Ali doesn't want to and relaly Karim only really thought about Ali not becoming gay but he just couldn't even think about seperating the twins at all. But Suzy wants to go and she does and Dina tells Constantine to forget about getting ali. But then ALi disappears and Karim is VERY mad and potty mouthed and he assumes that Dina took him but he actually ran away so he could go back to his moommy and his sissy and gets lost but the Major who is a contact of John is pleaded by from Dina to go find him and he does and gives him to Karim.And Jordy comes home from the boarding school and Dina has custody of the children and files for divorce even though Karim is totally in love with her and she still kind of likes him but she says no and then she starts to like Jhon and then Karim starts visiting new york and accepts Jordy because he doesn't want to lose something else he loves- and his dad Hassan is like always like in love with Jordy but Maha, his mom is a brat but nobody likes her
