Less is more...

Lets try writing shorter posts. Part of the reason I have you do these blogs is to practice writing, and writing long diatribes regarding your novels is reinforcing bad habits. Get to the point in two standard paragraphs, please.

The Life of Pi
Yann Martel
(1-106)

This book is about a boy named Piscine Molitor Patel (named after a French pool). He changes his name after being made fun of to Pi Patel. In the part of the book that I read, two major things happen: Piscine learns about animals and is introduced to religion. First of all, near the beginning of the story, Pi's dad shows him to a tiger exhibit in the zoo that they own, and has the person who feeds it, put a goat in it's cage. He has Pi watch the tiger devour the goat to show him how deadly tigers can be. ThenPi thinks about the circus. How the ringmaster becomes the "alpha lion" and the lions have to follow him. Then, Pi gets to know three main religions. First, when he is born an Indian, he is introduced to Hinduism. Then, when his family goes to some city in India, he finds a Christian church. He goes inside and a priest tells him all about Christianity. Then, Pi finds a mosque and goes inside. He sees something sort of like bread and then he hears someone (the head of the mosque). He learns his name is Mr. Santosh Kumar, and he also tells him a lot about the Muslim religion. Finally, when Pi and his parents are going for a walk without his brother Ravi, they come upon all three religious figures at the same time. They argue about which religion he should follow, but he does not pick. He decides that he will be all three, and is firm on his decision. His parents don't agree at first, but finally baptizee him, and get him a prayer rug. This is where I stopped.

I think this book is great because I can sort of relate to it an dit is very thrilling. I definately can't wait to know what happens next!

Princess
Nicholasa Mohr
Whole Thing

This short story is about a girl named Judy, who has always wanted a pet, but her mom never let her have one. So instead, she walks Princess. Princess is the dog of Don Osvaldo and Dona Nereida. These people own a grocery store, and when they found the dog, they decided to keep it and name it Princess. When Judy walks Princess every day, she takes her to all of the kids in the neighborhood to play and show off. However, one day, when Judy's mom gets a spoiled can of beans, everything turns around. Mrs. Morales (Judy's mom) decides to go to the store, but Don Osvaldo won't let her return it. He claims that it is not spoiled, and it is already open. However, since Don Osvaldo says it is not spoiled, Mrs. Morales decides to hold it against him. She tells Judy to feed it to Princess. When she does this and they leave, Princess starts throwing up, and she dies. Judy feels so bad, and they never go back to that grocery store, ntil one day when Dona Nereida invites Judy in to see Princess's inner sanctum, which she never does. However, Judy gets creeped out, and when she leaves she decides NEVER EVER to pass by it.

I like this story a lot; I couldn't stop reading it.

Animal Farm
George Orwell

Old Major the pig died at 12 years old and there were new leaders. all of them were pigs. the first one was Napolean who always got what he wanted because he was the biggest of pigs, but didn't talk alot. the next pig was snowball who was abetter talker than Napolean, but smaller. then there was squealer who could persude animals to do anything, the animals said he could turn black into white. a couple days after they were in charged they killed the farm and his workers.. then they invaded his house and made seven commandments a couple of them are animals cant wear clothes, and animals cant kill other animals. they started to harvest the farm and did a better job than the humans, it was said that animals had to work equally and other animals didnt think they shared the work, but they said we are supervising.

i think some animal is going to break all the rules most likely the pigs and people are going to come to the farm and see what happened and the animals will all die.

The Life of Pi
Yann Martel
(107-157)

In the part, Pi Patel's family is moving from India to Canada and selling the animals from their zoo back in India. They are going to go on a Thai ship with all of the animals. Pi wakes up one day to a storm on this ship, and decides not to wake his family up. Then, Pi asks what is going on of to sailors, but they just throw him overboard (to feed the tiger next to the ship). Pi grabs a life boat, and tries to help someone who he sees drowning in the distance. He thinks it is someone he knows, but it is really a tiger! This is where I stopped.

I can't wait to see how Pi Patel survives in the middle of the ocean with a tiger! The way Yann Martel presents the story is unique, and I have never seen it before.

Tumtum and Nutmeg:
Adventures Beyond Nutmouse Hall
Chapter 1 - 11

This book is about two mice who live in Nutmouse hall which is behind the dresser in the Mildew house. Tumtum and Nutmeg live in high-tec, big house, but the Mildews live in the opposite. Tumtum and Nutmeg want to help the two children, Lucy and Arthur because their mother died and their father is a busy inventor. The house is run down and in need of repair. They decide that they will begin fixing the house. At night they sneak up to the attic and clean and fix things. Tumtum and Nutmeg leave their tools in the children's dollhouse which is the perfect size for them. They write notes to each other and Nutmeg tells the children that she is a Fairy of Sorts. All is well until their Aunt Ivy comes to live with them. She left her house because there were mice. Later she sees Tumtum and Nutmeg coming home from there chores and she gets very angry. She Aurthur tells her that a fairy is helping them and she knows it is the mice. She buys mice poison and poisons Tumtum. Nutmeg has to stop her from killing them both so she consults General Marchmouse.

This is a very good book because it is very clever. Tumtum and Nutmeg are also lovable characters which also makes the book enjoyable. Aurthur and Lucy are also easy to fall in-love with because they are nice children who don't have a lot. I don't like Aunt Ivy because she is weird and mean to the mice. Overall this is a very good book.

The Pigman
Emily Mae Kaplitz
John Conlan and Lorraine Jensen begin recanting the tale of The Pigman by signing an "oath" wherein they declare that they will record the facts surrounding their acquaintance with Mr. Angelo Pignati. She says:"It's just that some very strange things have happened to us during the last few months, and we feel we should write them down while they're fresh in our minds. It's got to be written now before John and I mature and repress the whole thing."Lorraine tells us a bit about John, and his quirky behavior. She says that he gets away with stuff because he is so handsome. He also drinksand smokes a lot for a teenager. Lorraine is concerned about this, and thinks that some of John's problems are because of his family. Lorraine reads about psychology and attempts to psychoanalyze John, and everyone else around her.John gives us a preliminary look at his past relationships with adults. He talks about Miss King, one of his teachers, who tries to be "hip." John sees right through her use of expressions that attempt to make her appear younger and more up-to-date with the students. He says one of the things he liked best about Mr. Pignati was that he didn't try to act like he wasn't behind the times. He called John and Lorraine "delightful" and John seems to really respect that candor, and that Pignati didn't try to be something he wasn't. He says that his wife is in California, and then he shares her favorite joke with Lorraine. Lorraine can tell that this is a lonely old man, so she kindly listens to his jokes.John doesn't tell Norton and Dennis that Mr. Pignati actually wanted to donate ten dollars to Lorraine's fake charity. He lies to keep them from trying to get in on the action, and probably wanting to get more than ten bucks. He says that he didn't want them to take advantage of this old man, which he was sure Norton and Dennis would do. Lorraine tells him the next day that she doesn't want to go and collect the money from the old man, but when John's mother won't give him any money for beer, he tries to talk Lorraine into getting the money from Mr. Pignati.John can't get the money from his mother, because his father is angry at another prank he pulled. Right after leaving Mr. Pignati's, John and Lorraine go to a store to cash the check and buy beer. Lorraine doesn't think John should cash the check, but he convinces her that if they don't cash it, thenthe old man will be suspicious and may call the police on them. John then starts talking about going to the zoo with the old man. Lorraine recalls that she had a feeling that Conchetta wasn't coming back, just by the look in Mr. Pignati's eyes when he talked about her. Lorraine is now saddened by Mr. Pignati's jokes, and reminded of a landlady who wouldn't admit that her husband had died and was never coming back. As John kneels beside Mr. Pignati while waiting for an ambulance, he thinks about all that has happened since they met the Pigman. Lorraine had accused him of not caring about the old man after the party, but John does care. It's just painful for him to admit.

I had a lot of questions."What did she want from me to tell the truth all the time? To run around saying it did matter to me that I live in a world where you can grow old, be alone and have to get down on your hands and knees and beg for friends? A place where people just sort of forget about you because you get a little old and your mind's a bit senile or silly? Did she think that didn't bother me underneath? But other than this it was a great book.

Jaxx Ottinger Pigman

Lorraine and John call the Pigman after they almost destroyed his house, they call him to go to the zoo. They said that they were really sorry and that it would cheer him up if he saw bobo, the bambo. He sounded on the phone a little more exicited when he heard bobo's name. He finally said he would go and John and Lorraine were really happy and exicited.

When they meant up with him at the zoo they greeted them and he looked a little sad and forced a smile out. They went on the train to go around to see all of the animals. When they got to the monkey place, or the bambo place, the Pigman had a true smile that he didn't force out. The monkeys and bambo's weren't outside because it was winter. They ran in and started looking for bobo, but they coulden't find him. They asked the attendent where bobo was and he said bobo died last week. John asked if it was the bambo bobo, and the attendent said yes. John and Lorraine looked at the Pigman and said are you all write. The Pigman, and Lorraine said she still has night mares from this, made this screeching noise. It was a girl noise and then he started shaking and collasped. The attendent in a dumb voice said whats going on and is he alwrite. But the Pigman was dead. Lorraine started crying and John just stared at him like he didn't know what happened. He told the attendent to call the cops. And he also told Lorraine to get out of hear because even she knew that her mom would kill her if she found out that Lorraine was their next to him when he died. So Lorraine ran out crying and John was just crouched down next to him.

I like this book because it is very interesting and you never know what is going to happen. Like I didn't expect bobo do die. But it happened so this book is really exiciting and preaty fun to read.

He wanted to stay with his friends. He became tired and bored of pogoing around in their house so despite there promise he left and started hopping around. He hopped up stairs into the attic and came across Arther's toy soldiers. He set them up in a combat and rode on the train. It was going to fast and it him the dollhouse. General fell down the chimney and he heard Arthur and Lucy coming. They thought an elf destroyed their stuff. Meanwhile Tumtum and Nutmeg didn't realize the General Marchmouse was gone. Eventually they did and found him trapped and they room destroyed. He promised he would not go out again and Tumtum put a big lock on the door. But General pogoed out the window. And he wrecked the dollhouse again and this time Lucy and Arthur found him. They took him to there school to live with naked gerbils. And then there teacher was going to take them to the pet shop or kill them.Nutmeg had a plan to save them. She is going to get the ballerina's from the dance studio in the church to hop on the pogo sticks and grab the keys to free the gerbils and General Marchmouse. This plan worked except they expected the cage to be in the classroom but it was moved to the cupboard. So they had to find them before. The Nutmouses took the gerbils home and General Marchmouse went home after the feast.

The second book in the trilogy is even better than the first. I love the characters. The author was so creative. The one thing I didn't like was that Nutmeg thought of the plan in all three books and (I think) they worked all three times. I'm almost finished the third book and I will be writing shortly.

This is how he gets food. In order to get water, Pi has to use solar stills that he also finds in a locker. Without these, he definately wouldn't survive. Somewhere between one hundred and two hundred days, Pi finally finds a small island. At this island, there is no soil. Only trees, algae, and meerkats. There is also a freshwater pond with dead salwater fish. At first he thinks this island is an illusion. However, it is an actual island. He lives on this island for a few weeks, and one day, while climbing a tree, he finds teeth. This is when he realizes that the island is carnivorous. He lands in Mexico and is treated well. A professor from California comes and interrogates him. At first this professor does not believe his story. However, Pi outsmarts him and makes him believe him.

I think this book is very inspirational. It is a good survival book that I would recommend to anyone looking for a thriller.

animal farm
By george orwell

So from last time I blogged my prediction happened farmers came came to kill the animals in Animal Farm. when they came they had pitch fork and sticks. Snowball who was the only one giving orders to all the animals on what to do in the battle. in the end of their "war" many sheep died killing the farmers, this horse Boxer killed Mr. Jones by accident, and the animals on the farm called the "war" the Battle of the Cowshed because it was fought at a cowshed. After their "war" this other horse Mollie left the farm because she enjoyed the presents of humans and this was not allowed so she had to leave the farm. Everybody forgot about her and started to seem more like humans in a democracy. they started to vote on things like weather or not to build a wind mill to make electrcity so the animals don't have to do work or start learning how to defend themselves for when the humans come back

i think that the farmers were stupid to come with no guns. also i think Mollie the horse will come back. Also the the animals so called rules are going to be broke by the pigs.

Olive's Ocean
1-209

This book starts off with strange woman coming to see Martha Boyle. The woman, whom Martha learns is Mrs. Barstow, gives Martha a ripped journal page from her daughter's journal. Martha remembers that the daughter, Olive, died a week ago after being hit by a car. Martha learns from the page that Olive wanted to be Martha's friend, and Martha feels bad that she never got to know Olive. Martha goes on a trip to her grandmother's house and looks forward to the beach where her grandmother lives. She calls her grandmother Godbee because once, when she was little, and trying to say Grandma B, she accidentally said Godbee, and decided to call her that from then on. Godbee and Martha decide to tell each other one thing that the othr doesn't know everyday until summer ends. One of the things Martha tells Godbee is that she wants to be a writer, but doesn't want to sound like she's copying her father (he is a writer). After some time, when her father gets fed up with taking care of Lucy, Martha's little sister, he gives up his book, and goes back to work full-time. Far into the book, Martha's brother Vince goes over to the Manning's house. Martha is looking forward to seeing Tate Manning, but changes her mind about liking Tate when she sees the oldest Manning, Jimmy. Jimmy is making a movie and asks Martha to shoot some scenes for him. After Martha really starts liking Jimmy, he asks her to come with him to the Benton house to shoot scenes. Martha talks about Olive on camera (that was the death scene). Then, Jimmy kisses Martha, and Martha thinks it was real at first. Then, Jimmy tells her it was only for a bet and for his movie - what a JERK! Martha doesn't like Jimmy any more and starts to like Tate again. At the end, Martha reads the journal page again and it says that Olive wanted to visit the ocean one day and never got to. Martha decides to fill a glass jar with ocean water and calls it Olive's Ocean. Tate steals the kiss tape from his brother and gives it to Martha. She doesn't know what to do with it. She finds out that Tate likes her. The day after Martha gets back home from Godbee's, she takes Olive's Ocean to Mrs. Barstow' house. She asks the man that lives there where Mrs. Barstow was, and he says she moved to Washington or something(he doesn't really know). Martha decides to use a paint brush and the Olive's Ocean water to write "Olive" on the front step until there was no more water left.

I loved this book. It has really short chapters, making it seem shorter and made me want to read on. I LOVED THIS BOOK! I thought Jimmy was a real JERK, and if I had been Martha, I would have punched him. I think that Tate stealling the tape was really nice. I LOVED THIS BOOK! :)

The pigman’s legacy

The pigman’s legacy is the sequel to the "The Pigman" Paul Zindels book about to high school sophomores, John and Lorraine who encounters an old man named Angelo Pignati whom they call the pigman because of his name, he looks a little like a pig, and he has a vast collection of glass pigs. The story talks about them and all their adventures. At the end of the book however the pigman dies. In this sequel john and Lorraine are very different then they were before. One day they decide to go to the pigman’s old a banded house. Or at least what they thought was a banded. For when they got there they saw that another elderly man had moved in and was now living under what used to be the pigman’s house. John and Lorraine think that this is a signal from the dead. They think is a chance for them to make up for all they have done to the pigman. Such as the party at which they could never really apologize to him.

I think this is a great book because it shows how john and Lorraine have changed over time and matured.

Monster Blood 3
I finished it in 30 min.

This book is about a boy named Evan who is babysitting his little cousin Kermit who loves to get Evan in trouble. Kermit is a so called genius even though he just has a 3rd grade science set of chemicals like iron and metal that he mixes together and get a shrinking potion. It's a really stupid and cleched book but IT WAS A BET. So what happens is Evan gets a mixture from Kermit that makes him grow about 70ft. Then he goes around town still normal except huge and someone calls the 5-0. Then Evan runs and hides behind Kermit's house until he makes a recipe just as the cops walk in his back yard. So Evan is okay.

This book was terrible for a 7th grader but IT WAS A BET. So don't waste your time reading it. Evan a fool for drinking a potion from his little cousin who Evan knows is evil. Kermit is a fool for thinking his potions will work. I hate this book

Tumtum and Nutmeg:
Adventures Beyond Nutmouse Hall
Book 3

In the third book of the trilogy, Tumtum and Nutmeg follow Lucy and Arthur camping out by the stream. Nutmeg was worried about them because they would be all by themselves and so many things could go wrong. The Nutmouses spend the rest of the day cooking and packing and get ready to leave with Arthur and Lucy. Tumtum and Nutmeg are having a very nice time but the Mildews were not. They forgot their can opener and the matches. Nutmeg wanted to help them but she couldn't. Unfortunately for the Nutmouses their close friend General Marchmouse came and scared them. He help the Mildews open their cans and start a fire but he slept in Arthur's boat despite what Tumtum told him. Tumtum and Nutmeg went to feed the General breakfast but he would not leave the boat. (He wanted to go sailing. And he wanted "his good friends the Nutmouses to come with him".) Arthur lifted up the boat and put in the water. General immediately took the wheel and started sailing. They crashed into a rock and got off on the shore. He named it Marchmouse island. And they found and ice cream tube and named that Villa Vanilla. General wanted to explore so despite Tumtum's warning(again) he left. General saw the Rats' ship. Then he told the Nutmouses. They wanted to hide but he refused to leave Villa Vanilla. Unfortunately the rats wanted to explore to and found General. Meanwhile Tum tum and Nutmeg wrote a letter to Arthur and Lucy explaining what happened to his boat the "Blue Bottle" and that they needed a replacement boat. Lucy and Arthur got the letter. But the Nutmouses didn't get to escape because General told where their hiding spot was. The Rats said they would let the three Mice go if they got gold. When they got the letter they were afraid they would never see Nutmeg again because they were poor and they didn't have any gold. They decided to send chocolate that their Aunt sent them. The chocolate was in gold rappers. The Rats believed that it was gold until one fell and the chocolates broke. Then Tumtum told the Rats that if they ate the (alcoholic) chocolate they would become as rich as him. The rats got drunk and they took their ship "Lady Crossbones" stranding the rats on Marchmouse Island. Tumtum and Nutmeg were very glad to get home. Mrs. Marchmouse was very worried about her husband. Arthur was very happy to get Lady Crossbones. And Lucy was happy that Nutmeg was back. It turned out well for every one except for the Rats.

This was a very good book. It was funny and I loved the characters. Especially Nutmeg and Lucy because they had good emotions and good humor. They were fun to read about. Over the course of this book I felt bad for Mrs. Marchmouse because her husband left for more than three days and she would have been worried about him. This was a very good book.

Abner and Me
I'm done

This book is about a boy named Joe Stoshack. But people just call him Stosh. Stosh loves the game of baseball, and he also has magic powers. If he sees a baseball card made from some time in the past, he can time travel to that person. There are some flaws in this book, but I'll explain in the 3rd paragraph. So Stosh wants to go back and see if General Abner Doubleday had invented baseball during the civil war. Stosh goes back in time and gets stuck in the battle of Gettysburg with his mom. After the battle he goes and finds Abner, but finds out that Abner did not invent baseball. On his way back home he finds a baseball game. But most of the things are different in the baseball game the Union is playing. So Stosh returns home and is happy he found out that Abner wasn't the man who invented baseball.

This book is pretty good and is a nice book if you're bored for 30 minutes. Some of the things the author includes is good, and some not so good but overall a pretty good book. Now for the flaws...

In this book stosh can travel in time to the place the person was at during that time, or something similar. But wouldn't he just be thrown in where the picture was being taken? Not in the middle of gettysburg? And when he returns home with a modern card, well the same theory. Not at home where the picture was being taken... it's flawed but 3rd graders probably don't care for those plot holes.

Pigman

This book is a "Memorial epic". It's basically about two kids who are lonely and in great search of friend. John and Loraine. They have friends but they are all bad. They really need friend and company. Then ,through a prank phone call, they met the pigman. He's all they every wanted of a parent and a friend. They go to the pigmans house every day. Even when he's not home. They have lots of fun. They even ditch school for im. The pigman likes them and they like the pigman. Then something bad happens. One day the pigman has a heart attack. Luckily he don't die but he stays in the hospital for a couple days. They still go to his house. The plan to throw a party at his house and think he will feel bad if he's not there. They still throw it and way more people than expected come. They break every thing and go crazy. John gets into a fight and it doesn't go well. Then the pigman comes. He's mad. The next day the try to redeem themselves by taking him to the zoo, but when he find out that his favorite monkey bobo dies, he dies too.

I think that was really stupid. People just don't die like that. The book was pretty good, but some of the things the characters did were just not logical like people in horros movies. I liked this book though because of the fact that the background of the kids was realistic, though mabye too exxagerated. Overall this was any okay book.

It is a great book and is like the pigman in many ways. I think Zelda and Henry are ressponsible for Miss applebaums death. Well the events leading up to her death. She hospitalizes her and lets her lay in a bed for a month. They aren't responsibble for her death but made it uncomfortable for her. well the first is when Bernice yells at them for being murders. They take her home in a wheelchair and see the gods from the muesam staring at them which says they feel guilty. They go home and listen to everything she wants and obey it and they say they bring a begonaia for her at her grave everyday.

The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini
(1-100)

This novel is about two children (Amir and Hassan), who live in Afghanistan. Hassan and his father are servants of Amir and his father, while both of their mothers are gone. Although Hassan is Amir's servant, they are more like best friends. Hassan will do anything for Amir, while Amir is very selfish. For example, they climb trees every day, and when Amir tells Hassan to reflect light into a house to annoy the people inside, Hassan unwillingly does it.

Amir has a bad relationship with his father so he wants too impress him by winning the kite festival and "running" the last kite (it is a tradition for everyone to try to run and get the last kite cut down in the tournament). Amir does win the tournament and he tells Hassan, who happens to be very good at kite running, to get the last kite for him. Hassan runs to get the last kite, but when night comes, Amir can't find him. Amir finally sees him in an alley with the neighborhood bullies. The bullies threaten him to hand over the kite, but he refuses for Amir. The bullies then rape him, and Amir doesn't do anything. He just runs away.

Hassan comes back home bloodied up, and he tells his dad, Ali, that it was nothing. Meanwhile, Amir goes home and his father is finally proud of him. However, Amir feels bad. When Amir's birthday party comes, he sees Hassan serving the bullies and feels very bad. Looking into Amir's eyes, Hassan somehow knew that Amir could have done something. He tells his father about what happened, and although very close to Amir and his father, they run away. This is where I stopped.

The kite runner is a very good book so far. I like how the author throws in some life lessons through the characters. For example, Amir's dad tells him that the worst crime in the world is stealing. Murdering a father is stealing children's right to a father and a wife's right to a husband, lieing is taking away someone's right to the truth, etc. I can't wait to see what happens next in the novel!

P.S. No more school until January!

(100-End)

After Amir betrayed Hassan, and Hassan and his father left, Amir and his father went to America. They adapted to life in America. After a while, Amir fell in love, his father went to ask for that girl’s hand in marriage. After the wedding, Amir’s dad acquired lung cancer, because of smoking too much, and died...

Life had to go on. Amir and Soraya (his new wife) tried to have a child, but couldn’t. They looked to adoption, but nothing was finalized. Amir went to visit his dad’s old business partner, Rahim Khan, in Peshawar, and learned a few things that he never knew. First of all, Hassan had married and had one child. Hassan and his wife were shot and the child was put in an orphanage. The second thing Amir learned was that Hassan’s “father”, Ali, was not really his father. In fact, Amir and Hassan were really brothers. Rahim Khan asked for one favor. He told Amir to go get Hassan’s son, Sohrab, from the orphanage in Kabul and bring him back. Amir left with an old friend name Farid. They went to Kabul, and Amir found that it was nothing like the last time he had seen it (in his childhood). There were people from the Taliban (Talibs) everywhere to stir up trouble. When Amir and Farid went to the orphanage, the owner said that a Talib took Sohrab. When Amir met this Talib, he realized it was Assef, the neighborhood bully from his childhood. Amir and Assef fought for Sohrab. Assef beat up Amir pretty bad, but in the end, just like Amir’s childhood, Sohrab shot Assef with his slingshot and saved Amir. They ran out to the car and Farid drove away. Amir fainted…

Amir spent a couple of weeks in the hospital. However, he left early to keep Sohrab safe. They went to Islamabad to try to get Sohrab a visa and adopt Sohrab. However, the American embassy said that the only way that Amir could adopt Sohrab is if Sohrab went back to the orphanage for a while, which Sohrab really did not want to do. However, before Amir could tell Sohrab the good news (that if he went to America there were many ways he could stay there), Sohrab tried to commit suicide…

Amir prayed for days and Sohrab was thankfully alive. However, Sohrab did not trust Amir anymore. Even after Amir took him to America and adopted him, Sohrab was silent for days. However, one day, at the beach, Amir bought a kite. With Sohrab, he cut down another person’s kite. He told Sohrab that he would run the kite for him, and Sohrab was finally happy.

This is one of the best novels I have ever read. I can’t wait to read Khaled Hosseini’s next book, “A Thousand Splendid Suns”! I think the reason I enjoyed this novel so much is because I can relate to it so much.

P.S. Winter break is over! :(

In the beginning of the novel, Indigo is very sick, he is out of school for a few months and has to go back. Indigo was not looking forward to going back because of the gang (and he doesn't like waking up in the morning.) Rose, his younger sister is worried but him because a boy in her class told her that his brother bet Indigo up. Saffy and Sarah hung around were the boys lockers were to make sure nothing happened to Indigo. The gang did try to beet him up bet the girls came in and beat the gang up instead. They left Indigo alone but found a new target, Tom. That is how they became friends because they needed to help each other against the gang. Pretty soon Tom became part of the family just like Sarah. Eve Bill and Rose were artists. Bill lived in London to do business and Rose and Eve did art at home. Rose liked drawing on the wall and over the course of the book. Rose is constantly mad at her father because he is not home and over the course of the book she tries to send him letters to make him come home. Tom and Indigo did every thing together and they were practically at each others houses every minute of the DAY. There was one problem Tom lived in America and he was going back in the summer. The week before Tom went back he got a phone call that he couldn't go back because his sister was sick. He was happy. Mean while Bill called Rose. Rose was hysterically crying because she ruined Toms guitar. Bill was worried and came over. Before he got their she tried to go to the guitar shop as she ran across the road and the gang pulled her back she thought they were trying to beat her up but they saved her life. Indigo came by and started beating them up too. Then they explained and the gang broke up. Indigo found Tom on the roof of the school and they stayed their for a while. Meanwhile Bill came and thought the awful thing that happened was that she drew a picture on the wall. But then he found out that it was about the guitar and bought Tom the new one he wanted. Tom decided to go home to take care of his sister and visit another time. Indigo and Rose looked at Toms plane go bye and they were happy for him. A member of the gang became Indigo's friend.

This was a very good book. It was very clever and it "painted a vivid picture in your head." I like the characters. I think I'm going to read the other books in the series. THis was a very good book.

Isles of the Blessed
Haddon Antonucci

Isles of the blessed is about a boy named Jack who is apprenticed to the bard. He has returned from his journey to the land of silver apples with his friend Thorgril, who is a northmen. Jack is told by the bard to go into the hazel wood to gather herbs. He runsout of the woods when he senses a creature watching him. The bard then shows him a bell called fair lamenting.

It was called that because it made a beautiful noise. The bard then tells him, thorgril, and the priest the story of fair lamenting. There was a man who thought that life was too easy for him ( he was a priest) and the church, so he decided to go to grim island. He had no shelter, so he holed himself up in a tiny cave. He continuously chipped away at the back to make it bigger, when he found a bundle in the wall. IT contained fair lamenting. He rang it and then he discovered food outside the cave the next day. After weeks and weeks a mermaid revealed that she gave him the stuff. She said that he had 7 days to come and marry her, or she could force him to. He tricked her on the 7th day by burning her tail so she could not swim. She then turned into a sea hag. The bard told them how she had come back to seek revenge. This is where I stopped reading.

I think the book is okay. It is bland at some spots, but I like how bizarre some of the parts can be.

The Bard, Jack, and Thorgril went into town to help rescue the bards daughter from herself. She thinks starving herself in a cellar will give her a soul, because she is an elf. They are unable to get her to leave, but they do get one of the nuns to bring her extra food and water. They then find out that the Tanner's steal the ringer to Fair Lamenting and they search all over town to find it. They eventually find it, but it is a bit deformed. They then leave and decide to drop by one of Olaf's friend, Olaf is dead now. They enter his hall and once they sit down come to find that he was dead, killed by a creautre that his enemy named Addertooth had sent. Addertooth was the new ruler. He hears thorgril is a princess descended from the lord of horses, and wants to amrry her. They drag everyone away except for Jack and Thorgril. Jack gets a message from seafarer telling him the word fire. He realizes that it means set fire to the peat in the hall, and he does. Everyone elaves, that is where I stopped.

I give this book a 8 of 10 so far. The books likes to send you around alot, which keeps it interesting. Though I do dislike how convenient some occurences are, the book is till good.

in to build a fire a man goes and travels to the yukon in alaska. he travels down paths and the weather keeps getting colder and colder. 0, -25, -50, -75, below. as he travels deeper into the frozen tundra he freezes more and more. he has two bacon biscuit sandwiches but he cant them because of how cold it is. his dog knows its cold because he has that instinct he does not. Eventually he sees how cold it is by spitting. it was so cold it froze before hitting the ground. he finds another path and remember an old wise man telling him to never travel alone. but yet here he is alone on this path doing fine. or so he thought. soon he walked across a bed of ice that was not fully frozen and he fell through. after he pulled him self out of the ice he made a fire under a tree and dried his feee. until the snow fell of the top of the tree and put out his fire. eventually he froze to death

this is a very interesting story. it teaches a lot about surviving. i think that guy is very stupid but survived longer then thougt he would.

Altar of Eden
Haddon Antonucci

The story begins with Lorna getting a phone call. This is from Jack, a person whos brother she killed while under the effect of medicine while driving. THey find a saber toothed tiger brought back to life and romaing the swamps. They also find several other animals, who when together have an increased inteleect. THey track the tiger to a gator farm, where boyscouts are camping, despite that warning sent out on the radio. While there Lorna finds the Man who raped her and caused her to crash, killing Jack's brother. They then go back to the lab after killing the tiger and find that all of the animals had one extra chromosome. This was also the time where they discovered that the animals linked telepathically and became smarter together. i stopped off when these people starting attacking the facility.

I think this book is really good. I think it makes the characters seem like real people. I also like how James Rollins incorporates peoples past into the story.

Altar of Eden

I left off in my last blog post talking about how the vil people attacked ACRES. Things occur seperately, so this is how it happens:
Jack- Jack gets a gun and shoots several people, he then gets cornered but kills htta guy too. He finds a car and steals it. While he is driving a guy witha an rpg shoots at him. He jumps out of the car as it explodes. He is laying in the bushes about to get shot when his brother saves him.
Lorna- Gets cornered and throws acid in the guys eyes, making him like explode because he inhaled. She then goes into a lab and makes a makeshift flamethrower. She gets cptured however, and thinks Jack is dead when she sees his car explode
This is where it stops. jack lived and goes to get ther others, put finds that Lorna is gone, and one of the reseacrchers got impaled through the chest my a piece of the exploded door. They then track down Lorna and find her on an island called Eden. Lorna is forced to help them or she will be killed. She finds that they have been tested on a pre-evolutionized form of humans, and that they share a hivelike mind. They wonder why they are all so aggresive, and she says that if their mind is linked like a hive, then if one feels pain they all do. This is where I stopped

I Like almost all of the novels by James Rollins. They add a certain thought process to it that seperates it from most novels. I also like how they do not put one chapter, then the next chapter is at a later time, but how chapters are sometimes simealtaneous.

He hits him with a club now and again to remind him whose boss. Soon he is sold to a new master who takes him onto the arctic tundra and trains him as a sled dog with his dog team. This man was known as the skittish half breed. Eventually he dies. Then buck and his dog friends who get in fights along the way are moved onto Mercedes and Hal who keep them for a seignifigent amount of time until they go onto an ice river and fall through and all die except for buck that is saved by john thortan. This post will not be very lenghty, because I have barely even started the book, but ill say what ive read. The book begins with a man on the southern end of chile, examining rocks, he then sets up an elaborate array of equipment, and strats setting up rocks. He finds what he needs, then goes up to a certain hole. Then a burst of light fried him, and a man finds his equipment and goes to sell it. It then goes to another part of the world, to a billionare building a museum. He is explaining to a man what he is after. There is a 5000 ton meteor that he wants in his museum. He then goes into a helicopter and goes to get the man he needs to help him find the exact location of it. This is where i stopped.

So far even though I have not read much, I find the book to be very interesting, detailed, factually correct, and paints a fair picture in your head, I have also found the billionare to be well characterized.

Call of the Wild
Jack London Finished

This book is about a "dog" who actually symbolizes humans in reality. At the beginning of the novel, the dog (Buck) is kidnapped by a neighborhood gambler named Manuel. This man sells Buck to a man who wears a red sweater. The man in the red swweater teaches him a lesson: that a dog is no match for a man with a club. After this, the man with the red sweater sells Buck to two French people who deliver mail. After a few additions, they have their own team. Buck learns a few lessons with the owners (Francois and Perrault). He learns that when it is cold outside, dogs should dig holes in the ground to keep warm, dogs fight like savages, and to stay away from one of the dog's (Sol-leks) blind side. After various andventures with this team (a wild rabbit chase, being attacked by a pack of wild dogs, and assuming leadership after fighting and killing the original leader of the pack), Buck is sold to a Scotch half-breed. This is where everything goes downhill. With this owner, who feeds them well and does care for the dogs, a dog dies (Dave). After this the pack is sold to two owners, Hal and Charles. They mistreat the dogs a lot and make various mistakes such as taking too many dogs with not enough food and too heavy a load. After being mistreated Buck is very worn out so when they stop at a man named John Thorton's camp, Buck does not go on. Hal beats him as hard as he can, but Buck still does not budge. John Thirton saves Buck and Hal and Charles go on. This was when the biggest mistake happened, the whole pack except Buck, who was left behind, fell through thin ice and died! Thankfully, John Throton was a very caring owner, and loved Buck the most out of all of his owners. Buck makes many sacrifices for John Thorton such as saving his life various times, winning a hard bet for him, and nearly jumping off of a cliff at his command. Buck loved John Thorton so much that he would do anything for him. However, one day, John Thorton and his friends are killed by nearby Indians. Buck is so enraged that he kills all of these Indians. Throughout the story Buck has been hearing a call from the wild. After John dies, buck hears the call again. He follows the call into the wild and finds a pack of wolves. He joins this pack of wolves and finds out that this was how it was meant to be his whole life.

I think that this book is very inspiring. It was one of the few books assigned to me that I actually liked!

The Cabinet of Curiosities
Haddon Antonucci

I finished alot of books while I was away,l but this is the one Im on now. It starts with Nora Kelly, who was from another book, working in the New York museum of Science. She meets an FBI agent and she brings him to a site where he needs her ( she is an archaeologist) They come to a place where construction workers found a series of tunnels underground with bones. Nora finds that they were all killed in the largest american serial killing of 36 people. What made it serial was that all of their lower backbones were ripper out. She and the FBI agent do inestigating and found out where, how, and why the killings were done. The guy stole children from a cabinet of curiousity, which is an old fashioned museum, and took out their spines and used it to prolong his life. Once the site was uncovered, kilings of the same manner appeared. The FBI agent was attacked, as well as Nora. They both survive and find the killers old lab. This is where I stopped.

I usually like books by these authors. Thye make you feel as if you have the entire book figured out, and then prove you terribly wrong. They also add a nice feeling of drama into the book.

This assignmen might be difficult for some students might not understand how to write this. Some students might also lie about what they write.

Three Weeks With My Brother
Nicholas Sparks

He and his brother are going on a three week trip around the world. And he talks about his life as a child and how that relates to his life right now. He talks about he and his brother did stuff like run away from home to the town which was three miles away when they were 3 and 5 years old. And how he's soo stressed out, and can't finish his work, and about his family life. The book is really supposed to be an autobiography.

I really, really, really dislike this book. Its supposed to be an autobiography, but the majority of the things that happen are reidiculous and couldn't have happened anywhere anytime, its just not possible. But its addicting, i mean i really want to know what kind of things that might have had actually happened and how he twists them and blows them out of porportion. i almost find it comedic.
