September 2009

I'd like you to write about what books you are reading at home. As you read, please take the time to open this website and write two paragraphs at least once every other week. The first paragraph should tell me what is happening in the book you are reading. The second should detail how you feel about the book. Your grade will be based on how often you post. By the end of the trimester, I'd expect at least 5 posts.

Rescuing Seneca Crane
Chapters 1 - 9

This book is about two best friends Kari and Lucas (she is a girl) who got to Scotland. Kari's mom has to interview Seneca Crane the pianist. Seneca is in Scotland for the festival that is taking place. Kari and Lucas were watching Seneca when Lucas saw a green reflection. She thought it was nothing. Seneca was only 15 a year older than Kari and Lucas and she was a great pianist. Kari asked if she could go to McDonald's with them and then see the festival. At McDonald's they talked about there lives and all Lucas wanted to talk about was Josh (Mr. Make Me Wanta Gag) Seneca said she didn't have a life she had a schedule. Then they went to see the acts. They were watching to comedians Scotty and Scotty. Then Kari noticed that a man in a green shirt was staring at Seneca. When they got back to the hotel, Kari invited Seneca to a sleepover. Her parents surprisingly said yes. At the sleepover they did facials and read tarot cards. The tarot cards said she would have a lot of trouble. Seneca wanted to know was each card meant but Lucas distracted her as Kari put the cards away.

This is a very good book so far. It is the squeal to my favorite book The Mystery of the Third Lucretia. Kari reminds me of myself and Lucas reminds me of Alex and Mikaela (except for the part about Mr. Makes Me Wanta Gag.) This is a very clever book and I know I'm going to like it.

The 13 and 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear
Walter Moers
1-517
Part 1

This book is a tedious set of adventures that a Bluebear goes through. I will give a brief summary of each "life" (I've gone through 11 so far.

1-Minipirates: Captain Blubear is sailing in the ocean and headed towards Zamonia (the fictitious land that this story takes place in). Then when he is about to be sucked into a huge vortex,a bunch of tiny pirates save him. He spends a bunch of time with them and learns a lot about the sea.

2-Hobgoblins: Captain Bluebear is still very young so he is very good in the "skill" of crying. He crys and gets applauded by the Hobgoblins. Then he gets so annoyed by the Hobgoblins that he sails away.

3-On the Run: In this life, Captain Bluebear is trying to sail as far away from the Hobgoblins as possible. He meets two talking waves called the Babbling Billows who teach him how to talk in different ways (forward and backward English and forward and backwars Zamonian). Then when Captain Bluebear leaves the two waves, he reaches a "Tyrannamobyus Rex" (a huge whale-like creature). He almost gets eaten by it bt manages to get away on a raft of harpoons. Then, he sees a huge ship called the S.S. Moloch.

4-Gourmet Island: He goes to an island with all of these gourmet meals, and gets super fat. When he gets so fat that he can bearly walk anymore, the island turns into a huge monster which tries to eat him. However, right before he is about to die, a Reptilian Rescuer saves him (a pteradactyl who saves people at the very last moment). These Reptilian Rescuer asks Captain Bluebear to be his assistant because he is getting old.

5-A Navigator: Captain Bluebear is a navigator of Mac (the Reptilian Rescuer who saved his life). Amongst these recue missions he saves a man jumping off of a cliff, a building full of puppies being collapsed by a Bollogg (a cyclops giant), and many others being eaten by "gourmet island".

6-Gloomberg Mountains: Mac delivers Bluebear to a school that he knows about "Nightingale's Academy). Here, Bluebear learns a lot about everything in the world from Nightingale [a Nocturnomath (creatures with multiple brains)]. He makes friends with a blob from 2345th dimension named Qwerty. Finally, when his brain fills up, he is realeased from Nightingale Academy and has to find his way through the Gloomberg Mountains. He finally makes his way out and finds himself in unknown forest (nobody who went in has survived).

The 13 and 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear
Walter Moers
1-517
Part 2

7-Great Forest: He finds himself looking at a mirage towards the end of the forest, but he doesn't know it's a mirage. He sees a female Bluebear who he falls in love with. When he finally approaches her he finds out that she is part of a huge spiderweb which a Spiderwitch has spun and only water can dissolve it. When the Spderwith comes to eat Bluebear he figures out that he can cry and dissolve the spiderweb. Becaus ehe is an "expert" at crying, he crys and dissolves the spider web. Then he runs for his life and finally gets to a dimensional hiatus (a porthole which leads you into another dimension.

8-Dimensional Hiatus: There is a 1 out of 100 billion chance that you will land back in your home land at the same time once you enter a dimensional hiatus. So when Bluebear enters it, he reaches the 2345th Dimension and finds a bunch of people who look like his old friend Qwerty. While exploring this dimension, he falls into another hiatus and you'll never guess! He land back into his old dimension at the same exact time. What a surprise?

9-Demerara Desert: Bluebear ends up in the desert, and sees a caravan in the distance. When he walks up to this caravan he learns that they are a group called Muggs who are searching the desert for the legendary mirage city of Anagrom Ataf. After a while of searching the desert, the caravan finally comes to the city. When they settle the city, Bluebear escapes the group, and gets sucked up by a tornado.

10-Eternal Tornado: This tornado is one that goes on forever. When go in, you turn old. Hoever, you age a minute a year. Bluebear finds away out in 2 years and peoplewho are trapped in can come out. Then, Bluebear heads for the city of Atlantis.

11-Bollogg's Head: Bluebear finds a giant head and finds away into one ear and out the other in a couple months. Then he finally reaches the huge city of Atlantis. This is where I stopped.

I think this book is extremely intriguing. The author puts it together in a very creative way. I especially like the fact that Zamonia is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which I think is so unreal and fictitious; but yet interesting. I am curious as to what to know what happens next.

P.S. The only reason I have a part one and part two was because my post wouldn't fit on one blog.

Also...

I got the first "legal" blog of the year. Technically, I got the first one because I posted after Mr. J said we could.

And...

I got the longest blog so far. (Which wasn't too hard because I got the first blog).

And by the way, the m!@#$%^&*()_+ contest you're having for the longest blog is stupid and ridiculous. I'm about to copy and paste the first and second paragraph so you have to blog longer then I did. Calm down and stop making things up about why you're first.

This book is about a girl named Margo Roth Spegilman, who runs away from home. That's where Quentin( a guy who I will call Q) comes in. He loves Margo and want to elope with her. She had ran away before and left complicted clues, but no one ever found her and she came back home. Q want's to find her before prom so he can go with her. He had gotten further with the clues then anyone else. Of course he has help from his two best friends, Ben and Radar. Q found out where Margo had been staying the past times she ran away, but Margo wasn't there when Q got there. He has found out about 6 clues so far but is stuck at a dead end.

So far this book is really good. I like the author a lot, and would reccomend it to someone who's PS3 or Xbox is broken. Also to anyone who is lokking for a long/hard read. Q is very smart to be able to find out some of the clues. HE also has guts because where Margo was sleeping was an abandoned minimall with rats, homeless people, and aids. Now I'm going to copy some of the paragraphs from the book to prove it's more complicated then whatever you're reading...

"And all at once I knew how Margo Roth Spegilman felt when she wasn't being Margo Roth Spegilman: she felt empty. She felt the unscaleable wall surrounding her. I thought of her asleep on the carpet with only the jagged silver sky above her. Maybe Margo felt comfortable there beecause Margo the person lived like that all the time: in an abandoned room with blocked out windows, (this is a metaphor) the only light pouring through the holes in the roof. Yes. The fundimantal mistake I had made - and that she had, in fairness, always led me to make - was this: Margo was not a miricale. She was not an adventure. She was not the fine and precious thing. She was a girl"

Eat it, my book is better and harder. HAve fun arguing over the longest blog... see you in school Mr. and Mrs. cyber fight

Half Blood Prince
1-300

This book clearly has an easy summary. All you have to do is watch the Movie. I (Dhruv) Will try as hard as i possibly can to show you that i did not get this from the movie.I will now begin my summary.

This book is about harry potter. In the last harry potter book, at the end, harry goes to the ministry of magic to find a prophecy that everyone is trying to find. He goes to rescue his godfather who is supposedly held hostage by Lord Voldemort (Bad Guy) He and his friends get into a big battle against Bad Guys and break the prophecy. The only one that still knows it is Dumbledore (Good Guy) The prophecy is about harry and Dumbledore tells harry that it said he's the chosen one. So in the sixth book, he's very popular because everyone thinks he's the chosen one. The new teacher at Hogwarts, slug horn,is really annoying. He invites every body who's famous to these parties and dinners. He is a really annoying character in this book. This tells you i read the book because i don't recall this in the movies.
The reason this book is called the half blood prince is because harry gets a potions book that's labeled all over by the half blood prince. It helps him majorly in his potions class. Another part of the book i think is important is when harry has the private lessons with dumbledore. It tells so many secrets about how voldemort came to be. I only read about 2 flashbacks and so far, those are the most interesting parts.

I , personally think these are really good books. I like them better than the first two because these are really serious and revealing. They tell so many secrets, its not even funny. Another reason i like these books is because they relate to the books before so when you finish a book, it all comes together. Then it gets even more interesting in the next book. The books keep getting better and better. Now I understand why reading harry potter books is a very big cliche.

Thank You

Dewey
Chapters 1 - 4

So far this book is really touching. It begins with a woman, Vicki, describing Spencer, Iowa. Then she says that on the coldest morning in January, while at the library (she works there), she and her friend hear an animal in the "returned books slot". They reach into the slot, and pull ot a shivering, gray kitten, about 6 weeks old. they give him a bath and it turns out that he was so dirty, his tabby fur seemed gray. They think it would be a good idea to name the kitten Dewey Readmore Books, after the dewey decimal system. They think to keep him as the library cat, so they have a person come in and see if the kitten could not harm any people that may hold and touch him. After watching Dewey for a couple minutes she decides that he can stay in the library and live there. She says that the library was built so that allergies, even to cats, wouldn't harm people with them.

I love this book so far. How Vicki describes Dewey is making him seem almost real, an it's hard to put the book down. I love how this is actually based on a true story!
